‘Waking Eight’

(EP Review)

Reviewer: Esther Triffitt

Sydneysiders PLANET have recently released new EP ‘Waking Eight’, ahead of a tour beginning in June that will be headed to Melbourne, Wollongong, Sydney, Byron Bay, Newcastle, Mona Vale, and Brisbane!

The EP starts off with track ‘For You’, introducing the song with repetitive guitar strums, heard as a constant throughout the song. The lyrics and vocal tone build amongst the verses and give off a nostalgic vibe.

Second track ‘Aching Dream’ begins with a slow guitar and raw vocals, screeching of love and the pain it vouches for;

“I’ll fall into an ocean of you… I only need you”.

Brit pop vibes are washed all over PLANET’s new EP, much like previous singles, though not something to get sick of, with raspy and addictive vocals, the listener will be made to feel like they’re back in the 90s with bands like Oasis and The Charlatans, all entwined with their own twist.

Third track ‘Save.Sold’, was released earlier this year, drenching this new EP with a sleazily addictive chorus, encompassed with strong Brit pop guitar, and a whole load of chaotically good noise.

‘Waking Eight’ has a draggingly good tune, piloted by a multitude of guitar effects and a punchy drum beat. The lyrics echo a Nirvana-esque grunge, accompanied by melodic riffs.

Last track ‘Just A Little More’ has the same effect, yet hones in on the whole EP, closing a piece nothing short of a banger.

‘Waking Eight’ EP is out now, and available on all platforms including Spotify and Soundcloud!
