COUCH WISDOM

PREMIERE EPISODE WITH BJÖRK

Series features essential conversations with today’s notable music-makers, recorded live on the Red Bull Music Academy couch. Debuting on September 25 with Bjork‘s Red Bull Music Academy lecture in Montreal, new episodes to come with Iggy pop, Tanya Tagaq, Moodymann & more will be available every week on iTunes, Stitcher and Red Bull Radio.

In September 2018, the world-traveling Red Bull Music Academy returns to Berlin for the 20th anniversary of its annual workshop and event series. In the lead-up to the event, which brings music-makers from around the globe together for five weeks of lectures, workshops and mutual inspiration, the Academy is digging into its archives to present some of the best lectures from past editions in Couch Wisdom. The series kicks off today with a never-before-published conversation with Icelandic iconoclast Björk, recorded live at the 2016 Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal and released in conjunction with news of her upcoming album in November and the arrival of her new single, The Gate. Over the last three decades, few musicians have matched Björk’s electrifying output and restless reinvention. In addition to her musical accomplishments – including album sales in the tens of millions – she has constantly pushed boundaries in fashion and the immersive experiences offered by virtual reality. In her lecture, hosted by Emma Warren, she offers thoughts on her long and multifaceted career, how intuition drives her recordings and DJ sets, and what utopia means to her.

“I was in the music scene in Iceland as a teenager. Half of it was girls, and I was brought up to think that the girls are just as important and as strong as guys. So it wasn’t until I went abroad that I would hit walls. I was maybe 30 years old. So I thought… put light on this, and try to show other women and guys that a society exists and functions where we are equal.Björk
