From revelrous rock’n’roll to moody vintage enigmas, alt-rock band, Selve, is taking you for the ride of your life into their neo-noir fantasy, with their double EP, ‘The Neon Parable of The Pink Hotel’, out 20 May.

Selve’s sophomore release is the outcome of the award-winning band’s 10-day artist residency at Coolangatta’s iconic Pink Hotel during lockdown in 2020, which inspired a smorgasbord of hefty rock numbers and smouldering lamplit piano croons recorded at the band’s intimate home studio.

Of the decision to release a double EP, Selve’s charismatic lead singer, Jabirr Jabirr man, Loki Liddle, said, “The two parts are contrasting but equally essential in telling The Neon Parable of the Pink Hotel, saluting the musical eras and classic films that inspired us, and the fictional characters we brought to life during our residency.”

“Delivering the revelrous fire of rock’n’roll, mixed with a little bit of chaos, ‘Part One’ makes transparent nods to our influences at the time. From the psychedelic Dick Dale surf-rock opener, ‘Silver Surfer’, to the outlandish Elvis vibes of ‘The Pink Hotel’, it’s drive-in movie fun from start to finish.”

“Softer, moodier and more mysterious, ‘Part Two’ slams the brakes on, letting the piano and lyrics lead you into the classic detective films we devoured, with many of the narratives lifted directly from the 1970s neo-noir film, ‘Chinatown’.”

Already hitting impressive milestones such as performing alongside Jessica Mauboy, Archie Roach and Megan Washington; becoming a finalist in the Queensland Music Awards; and winning the Gold Coast Music Prize at the 2021 Gold Coast Music Awards, ‘The Neon Parable of The Pink Hotel’ further portrays Selve’s immense range and promise.

Pack your bags and buckle in for Selve’s transportive double EP, ‘The Neon Parable of The Pink Hotel’, out 20 May on all digital platforms.

Biography

Magnetic alt-rock band, Selve, is a magical, mystical melting pot of culture, storytelling and mythology, old and new, that will transport you into a world of its own.

The perfect soundtrack to a Tarantino film and a live show so epic that it needs to be seen to be believed, this wild six-piece band channels 1960s rock vibes with warped electric guitars, satirical lyrics and the sauntering vocals of enigmatic lead singer, Jabirr Jabirr man, Loki Liddle.

For a relatively fresh Gold Coast band, Selve have already hit some milestones, such as supporting Electric Fields at The Tivoli and Megan Washington at Brisfest; performing alongside Jessica Mauboy, Archie Roach and Mojo Juju; receiving a competitive RADF grant to fund their epic Pink Hotel project; and taking out the Gold Coast Music Prize at the Gold Coast Music Awards.

Selve’s debut double EP was born from a 10-day artist residency at Coolangatta’s iconic Pink Hotel during lockdown, eventuating in a rebirth of Selve as a band, a collection of new songs and a documentary chronicling their trippy creative adventures. Later recorded between the band’s home studio and Matt Corby’s Rainbow Valley studio and produced by Alex Henriksson (Tia Gostelow, Matt Corby), Selve’s latest release is a trippy taste of the places this band will take you.
