“The perfect song for the days you need a little bit of a boost. Powerfully executed and it feels like the entire world is backing me after listening to this.” – ‘Get Yourself Together’ Review – Triple J Unearthed, Claire Mooney, 10th Aug 2020

“Piercing through the silent times and self-isolation, Brisbane-based outfit SUNFLOWER step back into a vintage sound on “Better Days” to remind us that there’s light and hope that’s still to come.” – ‘Better Days’ Feature, Atwood Magazine, 4th August, 2020

“Thin Skin’ is about accepting that life is going to deal you difficult cards sometimes, and letting go of anything that doesn’t add value to your life is one way you can beat the darkness. You can be your own worst enemy if you let the difficulties of life tear away at you. We only get one life, might as well learn to love it.” – Kahlia Ferguson (Writer)

“A very powerful anthem for the times, ‘Thin Skin’ strikes an honest chord in facing adversity front on. Those things that really challenge you in life – people, lies, confrontation, pressures…it’s a song that’s meant to make sense of why we need to face these things and why we become stronger for it.” – – Lawson Doyle

“How am I to breathe when all the rain gets in?”

SUNFLOWER stand to be a beacon of hope for those of us who have lost faith in themselves and the world around them.

Continuing on their path to inspire hope and meaning in this confusing world, ‘Thin Skin’ is a sanguine side-step from their previous feel-good singles and offers an unseen vulnerability to Ferguson & Doyle’s empowering songwriting. The illuminating warmth of the grand piano enveloped by an intrinsic blend of rock and orchestra marks this a significant point of sonic development for the band.

Composed of brothers Luke and Sam Woods (drums and bass), Dave Webster (lead guitar) the Brisbane-based, Australian five-piece is the love-child of leading frontwoman, Kahlia Ferguson and singer/songwriter, Lawson Doyle.

Their explosive debut single, ‘Better Days’ with its optimistic live-for-tomorrow mantra hit major strides for the band, clocking over 100k streams on Spotify in just under five months. Following up with ‘Get Yourself Together’, the accompanying music video features on Rage and MTV Australia.

The band saw their first six months attract major support and airplay from the likes of national and international giants such as airplay from Nkechi on ‘Roots ‘n All’ and Declan on ‘Home and Hosed’ of Triple J, Boogaloo Radio (UK) and Amazing Radio (UK) and press from Beat Magazine, Australian Independent Record Association, The Music, Atwood Magazine (US), Classic Rock Magazine (UK) and Americana-UK, Magazine (UK).

The dynamic pair were fatefully drawn together at Bluesfest2019, as showcasing artists on the Delta Stage. Struck by each other’s raw talent, the two quickly discovered a unique musical connection through months of songwriting and performing together behind the scenes.

Fortuitously, both lead singers found themselves standing in the ruins of their respective bands within a week of each other. Instead of retreating to lick their wounds, the concept of a brand new act featuring their paradoxical musicality, positive mantra and seductive mystique quickly came to life.

Collectively they have shared stages with the likes of Dead Kennedys (US), Wolfmother, Supersuckers (US), Powderfinger, Jet, Missy Higgins, Busby Marou, Casey Barnes, Sheppard, The Cat Empire, and The Jungle Giants. The band members have showcased across sizeable public events such as Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, St Kilda Fest, Caloundra Music Fest, Bluesfest, Beerfest, Woodford Folk Festival, Gympie Music Muster and more.

SUNFLOWER have quickly proved themselves as a force to be reckoned within the AUS music scene. Since the beginning of the year, they’ve seen sold out headliners nationally and mainstage performances at, Parramatta Park Festival (SYD), St Kilda festival (VIC), Mordialloc Festival (VIC), Beerfest (BRIS) and Mitchell Creek Festival (QLD), as well as, supporting Jack Botts on his sold out QLD Tour.

Selling out the first session of their upcoming Black Bear Lodge headliner in two days, they’re keeping the momentum in full swing with slots on Yonder Festival, Crafted Festival, Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and Vinnies Dive Birthday Show lineups.

SUNFLOWER carries heavy influence from the prowess, expressionism and freedom of legendary rock outfits Oasis, The Killers, Fleetwood Mac, Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, Joni Mitchell and The Doors. Their music is a skillfully-crafted infusion of the eclectic tones and grooves of the ’60s & ’70s, enveloped by their modern sensibility and timeless lyricism.

Flavoured with Oasis’ emotional realism and tonal nods to Coldplay, their third single ‘Thin Skin’ is a hand held out for those in the darkness, reminding you that the sun is always there behind clouds. Completed in just under two months, ‘Thin Skin’ and was mastered by Joe Carra of Crystal Mastering, produced by Sam Woods and recorded at the Woods brother’s home studio.

SUNFLOWER persevere triumphantly with their resonating single, ‘Thin Skin’ – Available Nov 25th, 2020.
