“13 years in, The Growlers are still masters of blending catchy pop choruses with dark, sleazy grooves.”– DIY MAG

“No band should be able to consistently deliver albums of this much quality, but this is no normal band. They’ve delivered another classic.”– THE MUSIC

“’Social Man is another reminder of The Growlers’ innate ability to mix slinky ‘80s riffs and motifs into their own blend of ‘beach goth pop.’”– BEAT

“Social Man, the record’s standout track, slinks through wobbly synth lines and addictive vocal hooks to push across Neilsen’s thoughts on social media. With a groove that will seep deep into your bones, the track is irresistibly funky.”– HAPPY MAG

“… buoyant track ‘Social Man’, which is about Nielsen’s disdain for social media, is home to an infectious sea of grooves and intricately layered instrumentals.”– WICKEDD CHILD

Ahead of their upcoming Australian headline tour The Growlers release their gloriously twisted new single ‘Social Man. The band return to our golden coast once again this Summer for what will be their biggest ever run of Australian and New Zealand shows. The fourteen-date tour which celebrates the release of the bands 6th studio album Natural Affair (Out Now via the bands very own Beach Goth Records and Tapes) is destined to be a travelling circus of mayhem and madness all the way down the East Coast stopping in most big centres and surf breaks across QLD, NSW and VIC including what will be an unmissable night at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney.

Social Man critiques the artifice of social media (“Social man / you must remember / how to disconnect”) with a slinky beat and a synthetic, G-funk soundscape.

“I’ve avoided social media all my life,” says Nielsen, who – despite his massive popularity on Instagram – doesn’t have any personal social media accounts. “It doesn’t look attractive, it doesn’t make people happy, but they’re in some weird purgatory where they’re just stuck in their phones all the time.”

Together, singer Brooks Nielsen, music director/guitarist Matt Taylor and team infuse the new material with a sense of history – arguably delivering The Growlers’ most mature, thoughtful, and truly human release yet – making their latest LP Natural Affair an album for our time, and one for the ages.

Between records the band have toured the globe constantly, raising their status as icons of the Los Angeles underground with their epic and riotous live performances capable of drawing arena-sized crowds for their hometown shows. They have just wrapped another very successful year of their annual festival Beach Goth (now in its eighth year) which sold out three nights and over 12,000 tickets at LA’s iconic The Hollywood Palladium. The event was superbly captured via Monster Children who declared “The Growlers’ annual insanity did not disappoint.” The band has just announced another lap of the globe for 2020 with some 43 dates across the UK, EU and US with more still yet to be announced. First stop on the Natural Affair tour is Australia this January where it is clear that we can’t get enough of The Growlers.
