The tour effect boosts Luke Combs
It’s an Australian success story this week as G Flip scores a massive debut on the ARIA Albums Chart, with Drummer opening at #1.
Drummer is G Flip’s second studio album and a chart peak for the artist after their debut, About Us, peaked at #6 in 2019.
ARIA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said: “Finally, we can celebrate another Aussie at #1 on the Albums Chart. Congratulations to G Flip and their team on this absolute triumph. As an artist and personality, G Flip has done so much for pushing the narrative of Australian music forward, and truly represents the next wave of homegrown success here and overseas. Luke Combs’ albums step back up the chart after commencing his Australian tour on 16 August, with This One’s For You up from #14 to #9 in its 283rd week on the chart. His most recent album, Gettin’ Old, is also up from #17 to #10 and former #1, What You See Ain’t Always What You Get, is up from #21 to #14.
The soundtrack from the new documentary, Ego: The Michael Gudinski Story, debuts at #2. The soundtrack features more than 40 classics, including homegrown anthems Most People I Know (Think That I’m Crazy) by Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs, Horror Movie and Ego (Is Not A Dirty Word) by Skyhooks, Counting The Beat by The Swingers, I’d Die To Be With You Tonight by Jimmy Barnes, The Loco-Motion by Kylie Minogue, Riptide by Vance Joy (which is at #32 on this week’s ARIA Singles Chart) and Treaty by Yothu Yindi.
Continuing the debuts, Volcano by Jungle lands at #22. It is the UK dance duo’s fourth studio album, with their best performer, Loving In Stereo, reaching #10 in 2021.
On the Singles Chart, Billie Eilish’s What I Was Made For? from the Barbie soundtrack holds at #1 for a third week, becoming her longest-running chart topper and beating out Bad Guy’s two week run at #1 in 2019.
Olivia Rodrigo scores two top 10 hits, with former #1 Vampire holding at #5, and new track Bad Idea Right? debuting at #10. Both are from her sophomore album GUTS, which arrives in early September.
