Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: Mariah Carey ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ – Mariah Carey’s festive season standard ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ tops the ARIA Singles Chart for a third consecutive year. The 1994 track hit #1 in Australia for the first time on the last chart of 2018, repeating the feat in 2019. Last week, it reached #1 on the UK Singles Chart, the first time it reached the top spot in that territory. Carey’s Merry Christmas album has hit #11 this week.

#2: Wham ‘Last Christmas’ – ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham jumps 13 spots to hit #2. Its move gives the track a new peak, one spot above the benchmark it set on release in 1984 and again in 2019.

#5: Michael Bublé’s ‘It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas’ – Michael Bublé’s ‘It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas’ returns to the Top Ten for a second week, moving up 21 to hit #5. The track previously peaked at #4 in 2019. Bublé’s album Christmas has moved from #7 to #4 this week.

#6: Ariana Grande ‘Santa Tell Me’ – ‘Santa Tell Me’ by Ariana Grande climbs from #28 to #6. It’s a new peak for the track from 2014, having previously peaked at #17 last year.

#1: Taylor Swift ‘evermore’ – Taylor Swift’s evermore holds #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart for a second straight week. It gives the American singer-songwriter a combined six weeks in the top spot in 2020. The album’s CD edition hit shelves in the week leading up to Christmas.

#3: Delta Goodrem ‘Only Santa Knows’ – Delta Goodrem’s Only Santa Knows tops the list of Christmas albums on this week’s chart. Other festive season albums in the Top 50 include Michael Bublé’s Christmas (#4), Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas (#11) Robbie Williams’ The Christmas Present (#18), Andre Rieu’s Jolly Holiday (#19), Human Nature’s The Christmas Album (#33), Dolly Parton’s A Holly Dolly Christmas (#41), John Farnham & Olivia Newton-John’s Friends For Christmas (#46).

#6: Paul McCartney ‘McCartney III’ – Debuting at #6, Paul McCartney shows how he spent his lockdown with the release of McCartney III. Like McCartney(1970) and McCartney II (1980), the new album was written, played and produced by McCartney with minimal outside assistance. The 18th solo album for the Beatles and Wings legend gives him his second Top Ten album in three years, coming on the back of Egypt Station (#4 Sept. ’18). It’s #4 on this week’s Vinyl Albums Chart.

#7: Eminem ‘Music To Be Murdered By’ – Eminem’s Music To Be Murdered By returns to the Top 50 at #7 for the first time since July on the back of the surprise release of a deluxe edition. The bonus disc includes collaborations with Dr Dre, Ty Dolla Sign, Skylar Grey and more. Music To Be Murdered Bytopped the chart in its debut week back in January of this year.

#9: King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard ‘K.G.’ – Following the release of the album on vinyl, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s K.G. returns to the chart and nabs a new peak at #9. The Melbourne band’s 16th studio album becomes their eleventh Top Ten album and their fourth Top Ten of 2020 after Live in Adelaide ’19 (#6 Jan. ’20), Live in Paris ’19 (#9 Jan. ’20) and Chunky Shrapnel(#2 Jul. ’20). The latter album won Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album at the 2020 ARIA Awards. K.G tops the ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart this week.
