Album Highlights: 

#1: Meat Loaf ‘Bat Out Of Hell’ – American star Meat Loaf hits #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with his mammoth album Bat Out Of Hell. It becomes the album’s ninth week at #1 in Australia, having initially spent eight straight weeks in the top spot between June and August 1978. Bat Out Of Hell has been accredited 25x Platinum in Australia. The sequel album Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell(#1 Sept. ’93) has also re-entered the chart this week at #37. Meat Loaf – born Michael Lee Aday – died on 20 January, aged 74.

The span of 2,269 weeks between Bat Out Of Hell’s last appearance at #1 and this week is now the longest gap in Australian charts history, surpassing the Grease soundtrack, which had 657 weeks between #1s (Nov ’78-Jun. ’91).

#2: Soundtrack ‘Encanto’ – Five weeks into its run in the ARIA Albums Chart, the soundtrack to Disney’s Encanto moves up two spots to hit a new peak at #2. This week, the album’s since ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ and ‘Surface Pressure’ are at #11 and #21, respectively.

#9: Soundtrack ‘Sing 2’ – The Sing 2 soundtrack jumps up four spots to hit the Top Ten for the first time at #9. The soundtrack for the original Sing peaked at #2 in January 2017.

#14: Billie Eilish ‘Happier Than Ever’ – After taking out two spots in the Hottest 100, Billie Eilish jumps from #19 to #14 with her second album, Happier Than Ever. It’s one of a number of albums that have made significant moves up the chart as the result of Hottest 100 success: Lil Nas X’s Montero (#24 to #15), Rüfüs Du Sol’s Surrender (#40 to #22), Kanye West’s Donda (re-entry at #34) and Spacey Jane’s Sunlight (re-entry at #36).

Singles Highlights:

#1: The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber ‘Stay’ – After 14 weeks away from the #1 spot, The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber return to the top of the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘Stay’. It’s the 15th week at #1 for the track which won The Kid Laroi the Best Artist and Best Pop Release trophies at the 2021 ARIA Awards. ‘Stay’ came in at #2 in the triple j Hottest 100, which was announced on 22 January. As it notches up 15 weeks at #1, ‘Stay’ hits equal second on the list of most weeks at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart, joining Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’ (#1 Jan. ’17).

This week’s Top Ten also includes Hottest 100-related moves for Lil Nas X & Jack Harlow’s ‘Industry Baby’ (#11 to #5) and Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Good 4 U’ (#16 to #9).

#10: The Wiggles ‘Elephant (triple j Like A Version)’ – The ground-breaking week for The Wiggles continues with the iconic children’s music group hitting the ARIA Singles Chart Top Ten for the first time. Recorded for triple j’s Like A Version segment in March 2021, the band’s cover of Tame Impala’s ‘Elephant’ took out #1 in this year’s triple j Hottest 100. As well as being their first Top Ten entry, it becomes their first entry in the Singles Chart Top 50. Their previous peak on the ARIA Singles Chart was with their cover of Daddy Cool’s ‘Eagle Rock’ (#80 Mar. ’03).

#22: Rüfüs Du Sol ‘On My Knees’ – Coming in at #9 in the Hottest 100, Rüfüs Du Sol’s ‘On My Knees’ re-enters the chart at #22, a new peak. The track previous spent a week at #43 in November 2021.

There have been a slew of tracks move up the chart this week as a result of their entry in the Hottest 100: Doja Cat’s ‘Kiss Me More’ (#18 to #15), Billie Eilish’s ‘Happier Than Ever’ (#30 to #16), Lil Nas X’s ‘THATS WHAT I WANT’ (#21 to #18), bbno$’s ‘Edamame’ feat Rich Brian (#25 to #23), Vance Joy’s ‘Missing Piece’ (#27 to #25), Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License’ (#50 to #28), Lil Nas X’s ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ (#34 to #29), Doja Cat’s ‘Need To Know’ (#49 to #40).

#24: Charlie Puth ‘Light Switch’ – American singer-songwriter Charlie Puth hit the Singles Chart for the first time since 2017 with ‘Light Switch’. It’s the lead single from Puth’s forthcoming third studio album Charlie, which is set for release sometime in 2022. Charlie Puth last appeared on the chart with ‘How Long’ (#17 Dec. ’17).

#34: Spacey Jane ‘Lots Of Nothing’ – Perth band Spacey Jane claim their second ARIA Top 50 entry of their career as they debut at #34 with ‘Lots Of Nothing. The track, which placed at #3 in the triple j Hottest 100, hits the chart a year on from their first entry with ‘Booster Seat’ (#8 Feb. ’21), which went on to win Song Of The Year at the 2021 ARIA Awards.
