Today, Unify Gathering Off The Record 2023 release the artist playing timetables and artist signing timetables. Artists taking place in the signings include Thornhill, Ocean Grove, Alpha Wolf, In Hearts Wake, Redhook, Banks Arcade and Yours Truly amongst others. You can view the playing timetables HERE and the signing timetable info below.

Support Act and Unify Off The Record today also announce the Primal Therapy panels happening at every event.

Making and sharing heavy metal music can be a transformative and empowering experience, allowing artists to express themselves creatively and connect with others who share their passions and interests. But metal music has also been long associated with intense emotions, from anger and aggression to sadness and despair. So when does the music provide a healthy outlet for expressing and moderating emotions, and when is it necessary to find other channels to confront negative patterns of behaviour and thought?

Alongside Support Act, join Unify Off The Record or a provocative live panel “Primal Therapy” event with artists that delves deep into the world of metal music, mental health and creativity. Full details below.

Hitting Mackay, Adelaide, Wollongong, Hobart and Frankston, Unify Off The Record 2023 features a diverse line up of Australia’s premiere heavy acts including ARIA chart topping Northlane, Thy Art Is Murder, Thornhill, Make Them Suffer, Teenage Joans, In Hearts Wake, Alpha Wolf, Ocean Grove, Yours Truly, Redhook and more.

Since 2015, UNIFY Gathering has been a staple of the annual heavy music calendar, taking place during 7 of the past 8 years and bringing a diverse roster of local and international acts that celebrate heavy music to Gippsland Victoria.

In 2023, UNIFY will pivot to a series of small club shows across five states, with each date featuring a different lineup made up of acts from around the country, including one international in American deathcore band Fit For An Autopsy. The NSW, VIC and SA legs will be run like miniature festivals with 8-10 band lineups, and all five events will include pop up stores, artist signings and workshops before and after doors, with the aim to bring as much of UNIFY on the road as is possible.

NORTHLANE

Northlane

Northlane

Headlining the Frankston Leg of Off The Record, Northlane are a chart topping, award-winning metal band from Sydney, Australia. Through fearless evolution and unmatched innovation, Northlane have become vanguards of heavy music across the globe. The band’s critically acclaimed sixth record, Obsidian (2022), debuted at #1 on the ARIA Album Chart – their second #1 and fourth Top #3 album overall. They have also won three consecutive ARIA Awards for Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album as well as an AIR Award for Best Independent Heavy Album.

THY ART IS MURDER

Thy Art Is Murder

Thy Art Is Murder

Taking the mail slot at the Wollongong leg of Off The Record
‘THY ART IS MURDER’s thinking-person’s blackened death metal has challenged and inspired audiences around the globe, from top-tier genre festivals like Download, Graspop, Hellfest, and Summer Breeze; to high-profile tours supporting Killswitch Engage, Parkway Drive, and Architects; to multiple headlining and co-headlining shows. In their native country, they’ve charted higher than any other homegrown extreme metal band, a show not to be missed.

THORNHILL

Thornhill

The band’s rise since their formation in 2016 is a formidable one. Awarded a laundry list of accolades since then, the band have toured Europe and North America multiple times, and sold out headline tours in their home country of Australia.

Released in June 2022, the latest album Heroine debuted at #3 on the ARIA Album Chart and has been nominated for an ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album. Lead singles ‘Casanova’ and ‘Raw’ were added to rotation on triple j, and the band performed on the station’s Like A Version segment.

TEENAGE JOANS

Teenage Joans

Teenage Joans

Headlining the Adelaide leg of Off The Record, Teenage Joans, the two-piece powerhouse from Adelaide have not slowed down since their inception – in the last 18 months the self-proclaimed “Juice-box punk-pop” girls have taken out #87 in the 2020 H100, #84 in the 2021 H100, released their debut EP ‘Taste Of Me’ and won a record breaking 7 Awards at the 2021 SAM Awards.

MAKE THEM SUFFER

Make Them Suffer

Make Them Suffer

Make Them Suffer formed out of the local metal and hardcore scene in Perth, Western Australia. Birthed from symphonic elements, Make Them Suffer embrace classical and modern digital virtual instruments and samples, with nods to the likes of Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Halestorm, Jinjer and Spiritbox driving their adaptation on the metalcore genre.

Recently adding new vocalist and keyboardist Alex Reade into the role of “The Fifth Member” for Make Them Suffer, Reade’s first encounter with the band was when she stepped off a flight landing in Brisbane for the production of the group’s Doomswitch video.

IN HEARTS WAKE

In Hearts Wake

In Hearts Wake

Are a band on an urgent mission. The power and purpose behind In Hearts Wake fifth album KALIYUGA is evident in every facet of its making. Besides their recording and manufacturing process — which the band have completely carbon offset and have planted a tree in India for every physical copy sold — In Hearts Wake break boundaries sonically, by braiding diverse styles together in service to a wide-ranging scope of songs and performances.

Since their formation in Hearts Wake had devoted themselves to intense and relentless touring, looping the globe and Australia repeatedly until 2017, with multiple tours of the US, Europe, and Asia. During this time, the band became an international bright light in the heavy music scene and one of Australia’s leading heavy music acts.

ALPHA WOLF

Alpha Wolf

Alpha Wolf

To become the head of the pack, it takes heart, guts, and determination. Over the last 24 months, Melbourne metalcore juggernauts Alpha Wolf have proven they have all three in abundance. 2020 saw the release of their second album ‘a quiet place to die’, which was the culmination of every lesson learnt, every hit taken, and every loss felt; it lead the band to a #6 charting spot on the ARIA charts and nomination for Best Heavy Album at the ARIA awards.

‘A quiet place to die’ is the end result of five individuals who have faced the fire and refuse to flinch, pouring their everything into making something they are truly proud of.

YOURS TRULY

Yours Truly

Yours Truly

“There’s this unspoken rule that bands shouldn’t change too much between releases,” starts Mikaila Delgado. “Fuck that. People grow up and you should be able to do that musically as well.”

The vocalist first formed Yours Truly in 2016 while she was still in high school and in the years since, the Sydney four-piece have made a name for themselves as an empathetic force in the world of pop-punk.  Debut single ‘Winter’ came in 2017, their first EP ‘Afterglow’ followed in in 2019 along with a fearsome reputation as a live band. Brilliant debut album ‘Self Care’ was released in 2020. Today, Delgado calls it “the pop punk record we needed to make.”

New EP ‘is this what i look like?’ marks the start of that new chapter. Inspired by the music they listen to now (Bring Me The Horizon, The 1975, Bloc Party and Head Automatica) rather than what they grew up on, the seven tracks see the band scatter in every direction. There’s the electro-thrash of ‘Lights On’, the aching alt-rock swagger of ‘Walk Over My Grave’ and the fearless pop stomp of ‘If You’re Drowning (I’ll Learn How To Hold My Breath)’. No matter the direction, though, Yours Truly refuse to hold anything back.

Unlike your average music networking event,  Sound Minds, encourages everyone to leave the bullshit at the door and create a space to discuss important issues and realities that come with working in music, with warmth, honesty & humour.”

Connection to Country

Each show will have a curated experience that acknowledges and educates the audience about the country of which the concert takes place on.  Be sure to arrive early and don’t miss this special and important element of UNIFY Off the Record which opens each show.
