After months of careful planning and preparation, West Australian Music (WAM) are excited to reveal all the juicy details for WA Music Week’s flagship celebration, WAMFest presented by Act Belong Commit.

One of the world’s largest celebrations of local original music, the iconic annual event was postponed in November 2020 and is now re-emerging bigger than ever across Friday 26 – Saturday 27 March. The free-entry event features a whopping line-up of over 160 of WA’s most exciting, diverse and progressive contemporary original musicians taking over venues and stages across the City of Perth and Northbridge.

WAM is honoured to be continuing its partnership with Healthway to share and integrate the Act Belong Commit message for positive mental health across WAMFest and WA Music Week. The smorgasboard of WAMFest events provide artists, industry and music fans the perfect opportunity to put the simple guidelines into practice – performing or attending showcases, connect with the community, and celebrate music in a shared and meaningful way.

In a special addition to this year’s programming, WAM has invited Industry big-wigs Bruce Pavitt (Sub Pop Records), Electric Fields, plus booking agents from Urban Beat Project, Wanderland Music & Arts Festival, Select Music and New World Artists to get involved and curate their top picks at stages across the festival. The result is a line-up jam packed with genres for all tastes, and an exciting mix of your favourite established acts, plus brand new up-and-comers.

Heading up the Friday night line-ups on four huge stages across Badlands Bar and Northbridge Piazza are award-winning artists Adrian Dzvuke, Grace Barbé Afro Kreol, The Little Lord Street Band and Michael Dunstan, alongside much-loved locals Priscilla, The Limbs, King Ibis, Boox Kid, Car Park Social and more.

Saturday night sees the City of Perth abuzz with over 100 acts performing across live music venues and spaces The Bird, The Rechabite, Jack Rabbit Slims, The Cheeky Sparrow, Convenients, Lynott’s Lounge, Amplifier, The Sewing Room, Lucy’s Love Shack and Murray Mews, plus all-ages outdoor stages at Northbridge Piazza, Yagan Square, Perth Cultural Centre and the State Theatre Courtyard. Gracing the stage will be some of WA’s most-notable acts, including Carla Geneve, Peter Bibby’s Dog Act, The Floors, Dulcie, Great Gable, Furchick, Grievous Bodily Calm and Death by Denim – a rare opportunity to catch them all on home-soil.

Perth-based musician, booking agent and artist manager, Mark Neal, has once again stepped up to the plate as the Festival Director and Curator for the massive festival. Mark notes the importance of the event, saying ‘WAMFest presented by Act Belong Commit is the biggest WA music event of its kind. It’s been happening in this state for as long as I’ve been alive and it’s an honour to be able to celebrate WA music through this unique community festival experience. In a turbulent time for music festivals and venues, being able to see this finally come to life is incredibly exciting.’

In addition to the two-day Perth and Northbridge events, this year sees the return of WAMFest and City of Stirling’s 2019 hit event, Scarbs Beach Party, on Sunday 21 March. The all-ages, all-day event sees stages at Scarborough Beach Amphitheatre, Livid Skate Café, El Grotto, Indian Ocean Hotel and The Sandbar, with performances from over 40 acts including Soukouss Internationale, Legs Electric, Young Robin, BEXX and Grace Sanders.
