Queensland’s best and brightest are honoured at the 2022 Queensland Music Awards, held on Tuesday 29 March at the Fortitude Music Hall.
Talented Queensland singer-songwriter Sycco is a formidable musical force, winning both Song of The Year and Pop awards for My Ways at the 2022 Queensland Music Awards (QMAs).
It was an impressive encore performance for the Brisbane-based musician and producer who also took out both categories at the 2021 QMAs.
She was among dozens of musicians honoured at the sold-out 2022 QMAs, held tonight under the glittering chandeliers of The Fortitude Music Hall.
Hosted by Katherine Feeney and Michael Tuahine, more than 500 guests applauded winners in 26 award categories and enjoyed surprise performances from The Jungle Giants, Troy and Jem Cassar-Daley, Sachem, Zheani, CLOE TERARE and Felivand.
Also nabbing two awards was Capricornia’s Zheani with the fairy-electronica-screamo-rapper winning the Heavy category and the triple j Unearthed Emerging Artist of The Year award.
The Jungle Giants won the coveted Album of The Year award for their ARIA chart-topping LP Love Signs, celebrating with a performance of the album’s titular track.
The other show-stopping performance of the night came from Troy Cassar-Daley and Jem Cassar-Daley, who received the Indigenous Award for her debut single, Letting Go.
The father-daughter duo covered Brisbane Blacks, an iconic protest song written by Mop and The Dropouts’ Dennis Conlon, who received the QMusic Lifetime Achievement Award for his important work in using music to draw attention to racism and oppression experienced by First Australians.
Toowoomba pop/RnB artist CLOE TERARE won the coveted Billy Thorpe Scholarship, following the release of her debut EP, Burn Book.
The six-track release sees Cloe channel femininity and confidence across songs she dedicated to her late grandfather Garth Terare, an Indigenous leader and Blak music community pioneer.
Selected by a panel of judges and Billy’s widow, Lynn Thorpe, the Scholarship has supported emerging musicians for the past 14 years and grants the winner $10,000 to record their next release along with career planning advice from Chugg Entertainment.
In a reversal of last year’s trophies, Amy Shark won the Highest Selling Album award for her second studio album Cry Forever, while Keith Urban received the Highest Selling Single award for smash-hit One Too Many featuring P!NK – the US megastar making her QMAs debut.
Other winners included Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra in the World category with Welcome To The Neighbourhood: Taiwan (就當家裡); Casey Barnes in Country for God Took His Time On You and Ghana-born, Brisbane-based iiiConic in Hip Hop with Okay.
WAAX swept the Rock category with Most Hated Girl, their first single since acclaimed debut LP Big Grief, and after a bumper 2021 QMAs, Miiesha continued to impress with her RnB win for Made For Silence.
While a panel of expert industry judges decide most QMAs categories, the People’s Choice Awards hand the power to music’s diverse, enthusiastic and colourful community of fans.
The trio of popular vote awards identify organisers, events and venues that have gone above and beyond to deliver an exceptional experience to patrons.
Both Metropolitan Venue of The Year and Regional Venue of The Year were awarded to the 2021 defending champions – The Tivoli and NightQuarter on the Sunshine Coast, respectively.
The 2022 Festival of The Year was awarded to a newcomer: the Airlie Beach Festival of Music.
The 2022 Queensland Music Awards is produced by QMusic which is supported by the Queensland Government.

Celebrating our brightest emerging artists and established legends, the Queensland Music Awards (QMAs) is an annual state-wide search for Queensland’s best new music. The Queensland Music Awards recognises the diverse people and places that make contemporary popular music an invaluable part of our state’s cultural heritage.
With over 13,000 songs submitted since its inception in 2006 (then known as ‘QSong’), the QMAs are judged by more than 100 top music industry professionals from all over the country giving finalists and winners the opportunity to catapult their careers into national significance.
The QMAs have spotlighted and unearthed a pantheon of Queensland music greats, including Kate Miller-Heidke, Bernard Fanning, Amy Shark, Sheppard, Violent Soho and The Kite String Tangle, to name a few. My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
