Asta ‘Doin’ What You Want’ Out Now

Coming in scorching hot on the heels of Asta’s long-awaited EP Shine released on Friday, ‘Doin’ What You Want’, the second single from her debut release is the latest official foray from the unstoppable pop trailblazer.

Premiered on triple j head honcho Richard Kingsmill’s 2017 show prior to being spun on Breakfast with Ben & Liam yesterday, ‘Doin’ What You Want’ is carefree, winking self-confidence incarnate. Rising star Yeo’s fearless idiosyncratic production builds a gleaming universe around Asta’s assertive vocals – one where limits don’t exist and wanting something is enough to make it happen. Says Asta of the track: “Doin’ What You Want is about never giving up. It’s about acceptance also and being the person you were born to be, never being afraid of your identity and sexuality because they are what make us who we are. Screw judgment and fear, just keep doing what you’re doing, the universe has got your back.”

Finally having found “her sound” after a wealth of experiences (from winning triple j Unearthed High all the way to killing it at Like A Version), Asta released the lead titular single from Shine late last year, which was immediately added to triple j rotation. Her collaboration with Yeo across the entire release heralded a bold, funk-driven approach peppered with delightful unexpected moments and fizzing with power. Asta is currently touring her Shine EP nationally, with her signature outlandishly stylish outfits, effervescent stage presence, and live band in tow.
