Eora/Sydney based musician, songwriter, singer and presenter GEORGIA MOONEY (one quarter of ARIA Award-winning folk band All Our Exes Live In Texas), today shares her new single ‘I Am Not In A Hurry’, accompanied by nostalgic visuals that create a visual collage of a life lived on the move. Following her cinematic debut solo single ‘War Romance’, ‘I Am Not In A Hurry’ is the second single taken from Mooney’s to-be-announced debut solo album, and is out now globally through Nettwerk – stream HERE.

A beautifully matter-of-fact bucking of pressures to stay in one place or settle down, ‘I Am Not In A Hurry’ was written in Florence, Italy just after a spontaneous three-day holiday marriage to a painter in Skopelos, Greece. Its sonic warmth comes via a dulcimer that Mooney won in a raffle in Canberra – a suitably whimsical juxtaposition for a song that celebrates the impulsive, unexpected moments in life; the impossibility of settling down when something new and exciting could be around the corner. It was co-produced with Noah Georgeson (Cate Le Bon, Devendra Banhart, Marlon Williams, Joanna Newsom), and itself is a tribute to Joni Mitchell, one of Mooney’s musical and personal idols – and her song Cactus Tree, in both spirit and sound. “Mitchell (a painter, poet, songwriter, traveller) is herself hard to pin down,” says Mooney.

On ‘I Am Not In A Hurry’, Georgia Mooney shares, “I was in Florence for almost a month writing songs… It is no wonder that this song emerged there. In those weeks, travelling alone and caught up in the romance of it all, I couldn’t imagine ever wanting to stay in one place again. How could you when there is so much to explore and there are so many people to meet? But a longing to keep moving of course rarely permits a flight around the world, sometimes the map is much smaller, often the journey is much humbler, sometimes it is an entirely emotional wanderlust. This song is about internal restlessness too and the desire to throw off the expectation society imposes on us to settle down, find a partner, have a baby. Why the hurry?”

The diaristic music video for ‘I Am Not In A Hurry’ takes in small vignettes from Mooney’s travels around the globe – from the Rocky Mountains to the palace gardens of Vienna, a 10-piece Russian band in a Kansas hotel to the Spice Girls at London’s Wembley Stadium, and more familiar landmarks like Sydney Harbour plus a performance with Mooney’s own SUPERGROUP – providing a small but impactful window into her life.

First finding fame as one quarter of acclaimed folk band All Our Exes Live in Texas, Georgia Mooney (she/her) is an ARIA-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Eora/Sydney. She co-hosts the Simply Marvellous podcast with Rhys Nicholson and Kyran Wheatley and is also the creator of SUPERGROUP, a wonderfully entertaining musical variety show that brings together an eclectic mix of musicians to perform each other’s songs and tell weird and wonderful stories from the road. The critically acclaimed show toured in 2022 after several years in residency in Eora/Sydney, and has featured 42 special guests including Tim Minchin, Hannah Joy (Middle Kids), Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music), Clare Bowditch, Montaigne, Maple Glider, Elizabeth, Tim Rogers and Murray Cook (The Wiggles). As deft and charismatic a speaker as a musician, Mooney has hosted the APRA Awards, frequently guest hosted on Double J, and contributed angelic harmony vocals to the likes of Passenger, Tim Minchin, Kesha and many more. Together with All Our Exes Live In Texas, she has toured the world several times over, including as special guests of the iconic Midnight Oil, Backstreet Boys, Nathaniel Ratelif and a host of others.

Mooney’s debut single ‘War Romance’ attracted support from the Daily Telegraph, ABC RN Breakfast, AIR, Q News, Music Feeds, Tone Deaf, The AU Review and beyond, and was added to rotation on Double J, PBSFM, and Edge Radio with airplay from 2SER, FBi Radio, Triple R and more.
