James Johnston has taken the country music world by storm over the last two months, with his debut single, ‘RAISED LIKE THAT’ becoming the fastest ever debut single by an Australian based country artist to achieve 1 million streams across Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube combined.
Since its release on Friday 9th July, the track has become a multi-platform smash with outstanding numbers across streaming, radio and social media. ‘RAISED LIKE THAT’ is currently sitting in the Top 5 on The Music Network CountryTown Hot50 Airplay chart and showing no signs of slowing down. The growth in social media has been especially strong on TikTok where James’ followers have grown from 500 to 25,000 followers since the release.
James tapped into his loyal social media following for the music video for the track which tells the story of James’ childhood, growing up in a small town. On July 21, James put a call out for his social community to create a video showing themselves in their hometown and singing along to ‘RAISED LIKE THAT’. There was an incredible response with over 2,000 videos submitted from across the world. James personally edited the video together and he has launched the video today across his social media and YouTube platforms.
James’ honest and humble approach to contemporary country-rock/pop has struck a chord with a wide audience and is also crossing continents, with strong support for the track in the U.S, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Canada and the U.K. His style has brought comparisons to singer-songwriters such as Eric Church and Kip Moore.
James has written over 200 songs in the last eighteen months and is currently making plans for the follow-up to ‘RAISED LIKE THAT’ – this is just the beginning for James Johnston.
